Colin Farrell is back again, with yet another action flick, but this time with a bit more violence than he usually doses out.
Dead Man Down is a movie based on revenge, blood, violence and more blood. It’s not your typical Colin movie, judging from past performances where he usually plays a low-key bad guy. He hasn’t really associated himself with too much violence or brutality till date. Hence, the movie comes as an eye-opener.
Colin plays Victor in the movie, a man who once lived a happy, beautiful life with his wife and daughter, before it was torn apart by a ruthless gang leader Alphonse Hoyt (Terrence Howard). Hoyt also happens to be his boss, one whom he vows to take revenge on for destroying his life.
He then goes about meticulously plotting a plan to get back at Hoyt. However, unbeknownst to him, Victor’s being carefully watched by his neighbor, Beatrice (Noomi Rapace).
Beatrice, a disfigured, mysterious woman, initially appears to be quite harmless. However, when she discovers Victor’s ulterior motive, her true self emerges revealing her to be a woman with a plan of her own.
Just like Victor, she too is out with a vengeance against the crime lord, and will stop at nothing to make him pay. Using Victor’s dark secret as a way to blackmail him, Beatrice convinces him to join her in her devious plan to get back at Hoyt. Together they hatch a plan…one based on a mutual goal that would in turn strengthen their bond. Whether they’re successful or not, will only be reveled on March 8th, when the movie is set to release.
It’s action-packed, violent, sometimes bordering on the brutal, and definitely not one for those faint-hearted few. However, it’s got some brilliant visuals, jaw-dropping stunt- sequences, and a cast of remarkable actors who have done a pretty good job with their portrayal of their character. In other words, it’s a movie worth a watch if you don’t mind too much blood and gore.
In an attempt to promote the movie, the makers decided to take the viral-video route, with their Elevator Murder Experiment.
By first placing hidden cameras all around, and in an elevator in NYC, they then went on to stage an attempted murder scene, to capture the various reactions that would then ensue, to create a promotional video. Two actors were made to pretend like one was strangling the other inside the elevator. So when the unsuspecting individuals tried to use the elevator, they would instead witness the brutal act being carried out.
Some ran, some called for help, a few hit back, while a few others simply stopped to capture the whole thing on their phone. The video comprising of a compilation of reactions, then went on to promote the movie, although the connection between the two is still slightly obscure. Where does the elevator come in, for instance? Maybe, watching the movie may throw more light on it. So 8th of March it is then.
